Owner & Director
My name is Pattie Welsh, and I started as Owner and Director of my first school, Rhyme Tyme, in 1973, located in Campbell, Ohio and have been the Director of Hitchcock Woods for over 30 yrs. I started as the Director of Hitchcock Woods in 1983, and became the Owner of the Center in 1984. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Tom Welsh, and we are proud parents of two grown children Stacey Welsh Parsons and Ryan Welsh. I have also owned & directed the Lincoln Learning Center located in Salem, Ohio since 1991. When I began this journey in 1973, my sole purpose was to help children enjoy learning by helping them to find their own learning style. I hope that we can instill confidence in each and every child so that they can continue to move comfortably to their next level of life and learning. With confidence they can accomplish great things! It’s not what you know, but what you do with what you know.
Hi my name is Betty Cmil and I have been with Hitchcock Woods Day Care and Pre-School over the 30 years that Pattie has been the Administrator. I have be the Assistant Director for the past 16 yrs. I have resided in Boardman for 43 years. My late husband and I have two sons. Our oldest son Raymond and his wife Rebecca have given us two beautiful twin grandchildren, Raymond IV and Olivia. We are also blessed with our younger son Ryan, who also resides in Boardman. I have the pleasure of working with my sister Nancy Meenachan here at Hitchcock Woods. I believe that it is important to give back to the community, so I volunteer for charities that benefit children. I am a member of the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley Kids Crew Board, I also serve on the board for Angel of Easter Seals, and I am a member of Friends of the Public Library. The environment here at Hitchcock Woods is one of experience, love and kindness, and it is a pleasure for me to come to work each day.
My name is Abbey Loree and I graduated from Youngstown State University with an Associate’s in Applied Science and have obtained my pre-kindergarten teacher license. It is a pleasure to teach at Hitchcock Woods Early Learning Center. I love serving as a positive role model in a child’s life and teaching them something new. When I am not teaching, I am spending time with my family. With the love and support of my family, I continue to look for new ways to help the community. Please feel free to ask me any questions or concerns.
Infant Care Director
My name is Nancy Meenachan, and I have been employed at Hitchcock Woods for over 29 years. I formerly aided and then taught the 4-year-old pre-school class. In 1994 we opened our Infant/Toddler Room, at that time I took the position of Infant Care Director. It has been such a wonderful opportunity to care for the many babies who have passed through our program. Some of our babies have been the children of some of our former students. I have 3 daughters, Katie, Dena and Christy. My grandchildren, Brady, Rocco, Colin, and Angelina all come to the center as their mothers did. Does it get any better than that?
My name is Linda Pitzer (Miss Linda), and I have been with Hitchcock Woods for over 20 years. I have been married to my best friend for 39 years, and have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. A long time ago someone asked me if I could have any career I wanted what would I do? Instantly, I said, “work with children!” So, here I am and enjoying every moment of it.
My name is Carol Silvernail and my husband and I were transplanted to Youngstown 30 yrs ago from Pittsburgh. We have two daughters both in the teaching field they are our blessing as well as our pride and joy! I have been a caregiver in the daycare system for 18 years, and of that, the last 9 have been with Hitchcock Woods. The unconditional love that one receives from the children, as well as watching them grow and develop from infancy, is one of life’s wonderful joys. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share a little of myself with you.
